SITUATION REPORT

The Kalen DeBoer coronation is in full swing—bold SI predictions, QB drama, defense debates—but three running backs went down in a single fall camp scrimmage and now Tuscaloosa is doing the backup depth chart shuffle on August 14th. This is the kind of early chaos that kills momentum before the season even starts. Meanwhile, basketball is ghosting through the offseason with literally nothing to worry about, which might be the scariest vibe of all for a program that lives in natty-or-bust purgatory.

First, you have to have donated enough money to CTF that you've accumulated the points necessary to even get a chance at one. Then you have to pay the annual fee. Then you have to buy season tickets for every seat in your suite (tickets aren't included in the "rent"). Then you have to outfit your own booze. I'm not sure whether you have to buy food yourself. Or maybe it's included in the annual fee. Regardless, one way or another you pay for that too. If you want something special catered, you d

Yeah, I thought it was Virginia. I was still living in Alabama and my dad was still alive. He and I watched it together. Don't know why I vaguely remembered the NC State loss in 98. I was in architorture school, sophomore year and working full-time. I didn't even see the game, but for some reason remembered they lost to nc state. I believe nc state did it again a couple of years later.

Watching camp coverage this week and something weird happens if you line up what the coaches said about each position group. Wommack talked openly about the defense not being physical enough last year and said the fix is the D-line getting bigger. Then this week per Touchdown Alabama he actually called Nick Saban for advice on press coverage. Dijon Lee confirmed the DBs are being coached to press more this year. Hubbard and Brown made the Jim Thorpe watchlist today. The defensive room is loud. T

Wasnt sure where to drop this so chose this thread - the hype machine on pre-season rankings is in full swing....Miami getting a lot of love despite losing a lot of players, Notre Dame with the usual hype, even SMU and BYU are getting props above Bama...its amazing how the so-called CFB experts fall for the same stuff every year...even Cheatigan is ranked high despite not having a good year last year and no improvement etc...as always, once we start the games it will all crumble and the true tea

Simplify and do your best stuff. Don't get an inch deep and a mile wide." My take on that comment is to reduce the number of options. Don't put 200 plays in your game plan. Figure out what you do best and do it. Keep it simple. "Great offensive minds" tend to get too cute. They need to get away from the "flash" and focus more on the "grind." I would much rather see Bama line up and push the other guys back 3 yards when it's 4th-and-1 than run some razzle-dazzle play that catches them flat-foote

OL update: Grubb just told us the rotation is over. Cautious optimism turning into actual optimism?

I should have added I guess I'd take Bowden since he was a Bama boy and if for no other reason, if he would have been hired at Bama we probably win 3 or 4 titles in the 90's under him. We also may have been on probation at some point and it might have also meant Nick Saban never set foot on Bama soil! And, obviously, Coach Stallings would have never been a Bama coach, and he's one of my favorites. Better man than coach but I still love him!
